Jan. 18th, 2009 @ 07:01 am Not the Depression, a Panic
This article really made me think. It is a little longer than a livejournal entry should be but I think this guy has a book coming out. The financial panic of 1873 seems extremely like what we are going through. If he writes it I'm buying it!

Jan. 9th, 2009 @ 08:28 am Going to Inauguration
I got a call from my Congressional representative and I am going to Inauguration! The Secret Service called for the closing all bridges from Virginia into DC and there are expected to be hours of standing around. I am all for it! Bring on the crowd control, the crazy Metro mob scene and a moment in history!

Did Get Out The Vote today in Virginia. The Obama campaign is really doing well in our neck of the woods. Knocked on doors, drove people to the polls and even put up a few last signs. I am tired but I think things look as good as they ever have here in the Commonwealth.

Oct. 31st, 2008 @ 11:08 am The Election!
Mine, not theirs.

I was just recently re-elected to my post in the Union. I want to thank my campaign manager [info]bbennett who designed my postcards and posters and my staff [info]chanel19 who doesn't mind sleeping with the candidate.

I've got another two years to stir up stuff, fight the grievances and deal with the politics. I wasn't the top vote getter but I did pretty well. Maybe I'm the maverick!

One of my favorite on-line comics is Jane's World. Jane's World Blog shows a political debate that I think we are all having.

[info]chanel19 bought me her books. She used to help do "Peanuts" with the creator's son. You can catch the regular stuff on line at Yahoo! Comics. .

I just want to say I'm halfway done reading this book and it is good! Buy it or get it from the library. He is also taking on the issue of how we have over incarcerated our citizens! Virginia Senator Jim Webb!!

The creator of Dungeons and Dragons is dead! Died March 6th. Did anybody here play the game? I did but was usually the Dungeonmaster.

Feb. 2nd, 2008 @ 12:00 pm Lost my ADD Book...
[info]chanel19 bought me a book on how to organize yourself if you are ADD. In the space of one hour I lost it. Later recovered while cleaning office, it was under some poetry.

Two questions...

1) Is this true irony or merely a weak "comedy of errors"?

2) Is poetry the literature for those with short attention spans?

P.S. find doses of coffee help. Was low on the caffeine when this happened.

I received a $100 dollar gift certificate to Barnes and Nobles. I will be using it soon. Two questions:

1) What would you buy with it?

2) What do you think I would buy with it?

Jan. 19th, 2008 @ 09:10 am Bachelor Life
I am all alone this weekend. [info]chanel19 is off to Maine. I have drank the coffee sent out some writings and will send out some more. I have a few tests to study for which makes me wonder, how is it I'm forty and still taking tests? I thought the best thing about getting older was the years between you and school increased, yet here I am back in the school boy mode.

It is enough to drink whiskey! [info]lostgeographer bought me this book . She was very excited that there were more Scottish references than Irish references. The eternal celtic battle continues. There can be only one!

Dec. 4th, 2007 @ 09:39 am BSG Razor while living on the razor's edge.
I want to see the Razor episodes since I saw this clip on Youtube.

Razor w/Shiny Toy Guns

In other news I had breakfast with [info]chanel19 and [info]bbennett and I took her car to get some gas while she went to the mall with our favorite lost geographer. So I pull into a gas station and a woman comes up and starts trying to sell me some cleaner by wiping down the side of the car with a cloth coated in the product. I bet her she can't clean the hubcaps because they have some tar on them. My cell phone rings. Your not supposed to answer a cell phone when your filling up the gas tank but I flip the phone open with a flourish. (I live dangerous like that...) It is [info]chanel19. "Get that blond b---- away from my car!"

I look around and she is passing by in the lost geographer's Prius.

That is why I married her. She cares passionately. I live dangerous like that...

This is a quote from my new favorite non-fiction book. [info]chanel19 got it for me.

"Capitalism has become more responsive to what we want as individual purchasers of goods, but democracy has grown less responsive to what we want as citizens."

Below is the link. I still can't do a behind the cut thing. Can someone show me?

My old Union President stepped down last night to make way for the incoming President. Instead of having the meeting in a room above a bar we had it at the old Town Hall. A place with pillars built over 100 years ago, more class than crass which was good. I had backed the guy who won and he had backed the guy who lost. I had been alternately pissed off or proud of the guy stepping down. He wasn't my biggest fan but he did acknowledge my work. My old feelings of "go to hell" have given way to "good luck". Is this that thing called perspective?
